Leaving for two back to backs on August 2nd and since both are >350 miles away, I was not given orders to drive to either of them even though I requested that initially. I have heard over and over it is easier to have your car and I'm wondering how people work this out. If I choose not to fly and pay for the gas out of pocket, is that allowed? I just think the ease of having my car would be worth a couple hundred bucks in the end. Any help would be appreciated!

What I did last year on my ADT, I contacted the medical student coordinator and told her that I would need a car for the rotation. She then arranged to have an addendum added to my order to authorize me to get a rental car.

My ADT orders (AF) for next month provided me with a rental car, I didn't need to ask for anything special.

Slightly off topic here, but what kind of per diem do you get on ADTs?

thanks for the replies guys. i will call the coordinator and see what i can arrange. i was also wondering about walter reed...i've heard there is minimal housing there. do most people get statement of non availability and end up in a hotel? and also wondering if there is no room for you on post, are you still expected to eat on post or do you receive per diem for your whole time there?

I thought I read somewhere that you might be assigned to share a rental car with someone else. Hopefully I made this up because I have to fly to both of my ADTs...
