I have called them 2 times but every time someone was picking up the phone and I started to talk in English, they just hang up on me (they were responding back in spanish).
It is unbelievable you are working for a University, a College of Dentistry in the territory of US and you do not know how to speak English !!!!! 😱
It's amazing isn't it.
Maybe someone from the forum has more info.

   You haven't lived in New York or Florida, have you?

Puerto Rico is a Hispanic Spanish speaking country, as simple as that. They're legally associated to the US, but they have their own flag, they're own representation, (but not their own passport), etc. And many people there don't speak English.

Plus if I were you I wouldn't even try, unless you're Puerto Rican of course. They're really strict about residency and languague issues. Are you Hispanic?

Think about Quebec in Canada or something like that.

By the way, for your information the US doesn't have an official language my dear. So there's no obbligation of anyone speaking to you in English.

Good luck :luck:

I just wanted to know if anybody else has any more info about Puerto Rico because that's one of the benefits of our forum is to help eachother, sharing information, here we are all in the same boat and I didn't mean to offend anybody(especially hispanics) but I think if you are in US(or part of US,doesn't matter) you have to know how to communicate with eachother in the official language of US which is English(just for your information) otherwise the President one day would inform the nation in Chinese and an other day in Portugese because WE DO NOT HAVE AN OFFICIAL LANGUAGE.
Now.............wouldn't that be FUNNY. 😱

Well....I have a friend that is doing the IDP over there, she did her bachelors in Puerto Rico and did dentistry over at DR; The person is a native Puerto Rican by the way. So I called her and all that she told me was that first you have to do your bs first then pass the boards and then maybe they will consider you, Cool huh?. well she got in and she is almost finishing.

And by the way its pretty difficult to get info out of them, I think they are a bit disorganized, but I will call to again to see what pre requisites they ask for.

stay tuned...........

First day:

They don't pick up the phone, very interesting, an university with no secretaries to answer calls. mmmmmm 🙄

Will try again tomorrow!

You need to be a resident of Puerto Rico in order to be admited. But keep trying to see if you get first hand information.

Funny but when I applied to the schhols in PR I had no problems whatsoever with the addcoms. But if you like I had that problem with quite a few mainland med schools.
As for residency requirements, as far as I know of the three med schools in PR only thye Universty of Puerto Rico School of Medicine has strict residency requirements being that they are a state supported school. The other two, Ponce School of Medicine and U.C.C. accept both island and mainland residents withought distinction.
They do ask if you speak spanish because you will do many of your clinical rotations in hospitals that serve a mostly spanish speaking population. When i spoke with a representative of the addcom at Ponce they told me that if I didnt know spanish they wouldnt see it as a negative. Unless you are a hermit and a recluse you will be immersed in a mostly spanish speaking culture. So that by the time you graduate you WILL know how to speak spanish. BTW bilingual Docs are in great demand in the US, so it is only a plus. If any of you have questions on PR schools feel free to PM me.
