has any advanced standing student applied to or heard from upenn, uconn, uop or nyu?
i am totally exhausted by the application process...it takes forever!
also if i was to choose between dropping a year and going to nyu for a three year program(contrary to 2 in other places) what would you recommend? coz logistically it amounts to the same thing...dosent it?

Hi,
If you have an option between dropping an yr or going to NYU this year .. Well ! I would drop an year & try next year ( and definitely improve my scores ). But then that's me ! I would consider it as 'playing it safe' as I would like to keep my options open to do a post graduation in the future , not that Iam going to do it for sure but I dont want the doors shut on me ... NYU graduates find it hard to get into PG programs. The class size is 120 compared to 16-30 in other schools. And you have to be the topper of the class to even be considered for PG. They also find it hard to get placements over all. And its HARD to get a job in NYC if you plan to settle there (the pay scale isnt very attractive either).
The non teaching staff are impolite & rude at times ( Iam not exaggerating,,they can really give you a hard time ! ).
Its always hard to drop an year just to get into another school but that's the choice you have to make.... I'd say ...if you are not keen on doing PG, or dont really care abt reputation & stuff..... Go for it ! Ultimately it really doesnt matter where you graduate from as long as you can do your job, patients will come to you.

Good luck !

I havent been of much help, have I !!!

Hi Docie and others,
I too have heard similar comments about NYUCD as u have..Is the "not so good a reputation" b'cos it has 120 students and also b'cos it's a longer(3 year )course or is there any other reason behind it?do students who graduate from that school manage to get jobs easily or do they have a problem with that?First of all do they manage to graduate on time?
any info..appreciated.
Thanks

hi perplexed,
you have been a great help! it does make sense to see the broader picture and thing of post graduation.though i have a very good score i havent been that lucky yet..probably because i applied late and have yet to hear from schools.its the waiting around that brings in the anxiety.i heard columbia dental school has a program too.though i am sure they will be extremely selective.
congratulations on your acceptance at usc!that should be a great place to go to.did they have a technical exam?i waiting to get an interview call from uop and i was wondering how tough these clinical tests are?

Just to clarify . I was trying answer your question abt dropping an year or joining NYU this yr... I wasnt taking your scores for granted or asscessing you in anyway .. 😉 ( if students drop an year they'd want to see some improvement in them as compared to the previous yr ...so its either scores or work exp ). So it was just a suggestion ..
It's not really late for this year you still have a lot of time ...There are many schools that interview till late march or so ...as they keep room for students who appeared for part 1 in december . So they do have seats 🙂

I think Colombia Univ has closed its admission for this academic year.
Cali schools have tech exams... If you are familar wth crown preps then it should be easy.
Waiting is the worst part of it .... I know I know .. been there , done that !! 🙂

Good luck !

perplexed,
ok so i got a tad defensive! hope i dont end up dropping a year and something works out.no,i dont have much experience in crown cutting but was wondering if the instituions offer any training?
what do you think is the best way of preparing for interviews?this seems to be the most important part of the selction process and then scores do not matter at all.this is something i figured out after an interview at upenn.i thought i did well until i got the news i wasnt in!!!
