Does anyone else receive advertisements or brochures from schools they did not apply to. I have received a bunch of these with an accompanying letter basically inviting me to apply. They weren't schools I was planning on applying to mainly for geographic reasons (midwest and the such). Now I am wondering if I should have applied to these schools because they would have been more willing to accept me. This process is so expensive to begin with that I don't want to be applying to even more schools.

I had posted a similar question a while back. Some people answered and they say that the invites are based solely on MCAT score. The more I read the more I see that there are lots of people who have great scores who get rejected from schools with lower MCAT averages so I don't think it would make a big difference whether you applied to those schools or not. Maybe the MCAT just gets you into the door but they then judge you on other things. The process seems so confounding I sometimes wonder how anyone gets in.

I've gotten them too. I'm guessing most of us do, but I'm not applying to schools that send me junk mail. It just makes me wonder why schools are seeking applicants. All US schools get enough applicants?

My letters have all been about "Have you Considered..."

Are they doing it to generate more money because they'll get more secondaries? Are they trying to diversify their class by getting applicants from parts of the country that normally do apply there? Are they just trying to get different or better applicants? I'm not sure why they are sending us this stuff.

A friend of mine has gotten 3 invites from podiatry schools. He asked me what I thought and if he should feel insulted. I told him that I didn't know why he was getting invites from them.

Those are a lot of the reasons why I did not apply at these schools. One of the schools that sent me information was the Medical College of Wisconsin. I'm not sure about their stats, but I would guess that they do not get a lot of applications from people in New York, so I wondered if that also played a role. But ultimately my cynicism kicked in and I just figured they were trying to make more money from the secondary application process.

I also have gotten advertisements from podiatry schools. Now I know a career in feet is just not for me.
