Hey folks,

Please, no mean responses to this question if you can help it. 😛 I was just wondering if anyone has been in the position of being accepted to one school and is canceling a bunch of interviews... because that's what I am doing, and it is sort of unnerving!
I got an acceptance letter from UVA, which I think it a wonderful school that I would love to attend. With the letter they mentioned that acceptances were conditional because they don't have have all the verified AMCAS applications yet. Since my application was verified a month and a half ago, they should already have my application, right? Is there any way to check this on my AMCAS application?

Does anyone think it's a mistake to be canceling/trying to move to January my upcoming interviews? I have classwork piling up and it seems weird to me to keep going through interviews... but I guess I'm just nervous and trying to see if anyone thinks this is a mistake.

thanks,
elle

Here's what you do... Give them a call and say, "Sorry , my friend, I can't make it to the interview. There's this great guy named SwampMan, however, who would be an excellent person to replace me. Granted, he's not as great as I am, but he'd be a good match for your school!".

Hey, it's worth a try!!! 😀

If I were you I wouldn't be canceling any interviews until UVA gave me a for-sure acceptance. What if UVA takes back its conditional acceptance?! 😱 Then you'd be screwed! Maybe you should call UVA and ask THEM what you should do...

Good luck and congrats!! 😀

Elle I canceled three already only because they were safety/middle schools. I just mailed a polite letter saying that I had been offered an acceptance elsewhere...thank you for your consideration etc. If I receive any other interviews I shall keep them though, since I have yet to hear from my other reach schools. If I am lucky enough to receive several acceptances, I will keep all of them until 5/15 so I can compare financial aid packages. As for verification, if there's been no major changes made by AMCAS, then you should be okay. If AMCAS had let's say gone through your app and found 5 course withdrawals that you had "forgotten" to type it in...then I'd start to worry.

thanks guys...
SwampMan, I'll keep your advice in mind 😉 but for now my concern is what csgirl mentioned - I don't want to end up in a bad situation.

E'01 -- are you at all worried that there'll be changes made you didn't know about? My application should be just fine, hopefully they wouldn't make any mistakes in processing it. The schools I want to cancel are all very nice schools, but they're not "reach" schools -- I really don't have those, I guess.

probably worrying for no reason,
elle 🙂

Hey Elle. Well on the verified application there is a W next to orgo (I withdrew the first time but later took it in the summer). I swear I had put that down when I was filling out the app back in June. When I went to take a look at the printout from back in June, there was no "W" next to Orgo...just a blank space. I'm figuring that the med schools have my transcripts anyway.
