I'm currently a post-bacc student and I am planning on taking 2 classes this semester. I've decided to take Orgo I, but am still deciding between a few options for the second class. These classes are part of the Harvard Extension School, so if anyone has taken these courses I would appreciate any insight! My options are:
- Calc I (which I know is not a strong requirement for most schools anymore). I will be taking biostats in the Spring, but math has generally been a weaker point for me as I took higher-level engineering maths and got C+/C- on several. The grading scheme for this course seems like it's reasonable but the course is asynchronous. Calc I I feel more confident in, but I'm thinking it also might not be worth the risk.
- There is a global health related class (SSCI E-125 if anyone has taken it at HES), but the syllabus is not available and I have no idea what the grading scheme or assignments would be like.
- Clinical Anatomy and Physiology - however, I think that many schools look for Genetics over A&P, and because this class will be online I don't know if there is a lot of benefit to taking this specific class. I'm also worried that there will be a lot of content to memorize and how that might clash with Orgo.
None of these options are amazing, but due to the course requirements for the HES Premedical Program I have assigned, I really need to take a second class to keep up with my timeline. I would really appreciate any advice! I think I'm struggling on whether I want to take the risk with Calc to try and redeem a little (as well as keep options open for schools that do strongly recommend calculus - I also have an engineering background and may want to apply to programs integrate biodesign/bioengineering), or if it's not necessary and if taking a different class (ie. upper bio / global health which I haven't taken before). Thank you!
