Hey all... Looking for advice. I failed comlex twice and am awaiting my most recent results. First time I took it I wasn't ready had some difficult life stressors ( going through divorce)but had to take it due to school deadlines. Second time I took it I also wasn't ready. Took it during a surgery rotation( didnt even have time to sleep) and again had to take it to meet school deadline. Just took it again recently(studied for first time ), completed combank x 1.5, reviewed first aid X2 and watched dit for some weak areas plus i had more manageable rotations. My first real prepartion🙂
Avg combank 71%
Uworld 60%
Comsae c : 465- 3 day out
3.6 GPA--class rank 82 percentile
Did well throughout college then life happened. Obviously I'm just trying to pass at this point then hopefully make a comeback on step 2. Does anyone know if obgyn osteo is possible with my stats?

In all honesty: OB/GYN has never really been known to be "super competitive," but I am no expert in the field and such. But just going on some general rules I know to be true... I apologize ahead of time for the brute honesty....

Failing comlex twice is pretty... well, I think you know... and although it is terrible that those things happened to you, I don't really think program directors are going to care about any excuses, because everyone has them for everything (excuses won't matter when your responsible for a patient's poor outcome). I don't think they will be too thrilled to hear "your first real preparation was after 2 times you failed 🙂 " actually it sounds worse.. Try to put yourself in a program directors shoes, and be as neutral as possible. They've only known you for a month; they are not going to feel sympathy and sorry for you, and let your scores slide by. Just be realistic, and keep this in mind in general, OB/GYN or not..

So as far as getting into any of the "better" programs at bigger hospitals, unfortunately, I wouldn't count on it for the most part. Worse comes to worse, if you don't match anywhere, there might be spots open after the match and you can try to scramble somewhere, but most of the spots left unfilled are usually family practice and IM. I am not sure on how programs go about unfilled spots. You might not end up where you like, but with failing the COMLEX twice.... you lost that option to choose and you have to go where you can. As far as your GPA, unfortunately again, I wouldn't use that as too much weight.. it is usually at the bottom of list of "things that matter." On the other hand, COMLEX Level 1 is on the higher end of list.

Its not over though....My advice is to just work as hard as you can on your rotations, and show that you really want it. Stay long hours to help the residents, and show a great interest. Being helpful, a team player, ambitious, a hard worker, getting along with the residents, and showing that you really want it, can have a lot of weight in osteo residencies... Just do your best on Level 2, and I'd imagine you would need a stellar score to make up for failing COMLEX twice.

I could be wrong on everything I just posted.. so anyone with more experience with this process please correct me...

Good luck with everything.

Thanks frankyazz. I appreciate your honesty. I do know it will be a challenge for anything even some FM and IM programs based on my stats. I'll update you. Btw God's speed to you 🙂
