Hi guys,

I am going to apply this year for 2006... I took my dat's a couple months ago for the first time. Here are my scores

AA -- 22 (96%)
TS -- 23 (99%)
PAT -- 18

Bio - 23
Ochem - 23
Gchem - 22
QR -- 24
RC -- 18 😕
I dont see how 17 is the nat'l average. they gave my score of 18 in RC a 38 percentile!

Basically, I really want to go to UOP. I have heard that they are only accepting all 20s now? Does that mean my pat and RC score will be too low and I should RETAKE the dat?? that would suck!!

One pro I have -- I graduated a couple years ago in business and CS. I had taken a few bio classes my fresh and soph year (six years ago), and I had not even finished O chem. So basically, what I have to show is that I independently learned the material and took the DAT, opposed to have just taken the classes. Dont know if that factor will benefit me much tho.

another concern I have is this, I pretty much finished the basic pre reqs in college (one year of chem, bio, physics, etc), but i never took the lab classes with them. Now, I can only find lab classes that are offered with the actual class. So i have to RETAKE all these pre-reqs that i took so i can get the lab credit for the classes! meaning, i will be taking all science classes for a year and half (in a way its good I am aiming for straight As). Does anyone have any better ways to approach this problem?

IF i do retake all my pre reqs, my science gpa will be pretty high. my cumulative gpa right now is 3.2. What do you guys think , any opinons as far as what i should do? is my cum gpa too low??

any advice would help

thanks

don't you have at least a few community colleges/universities around you that offer lab classes as a seperate course? cuz rather than retake all the prereq's...you can just take the labs...

You'll be fine! People on here worry way too much and most are very qualified--so don't compare yourself to people on here. Your DAT is great (I got a 16 on the QR and interviewed at UOP) and it would be foolish to retake it. My gpa was a 3.4 and science of 3.18. I hear UOP really looks at DAT and your scores are great, I doubt one sub-20 will keep you out. Additionally, they focus a lot on the PAT. The average gpa has been about a 3.3 for those accepted so I would guess you are right about where you need to be. I suspect you are a better applicant than you suspect. Good luck

You'll be fine as far as the DAT is concerned - just apply early. As far as labs are concerned, yes, they are listed as a requirement at most dental schools so chances are you will need to take them. As far as having to retake the lecture portion of the class, I would search around. I know that at my university most of the science courses had the lab component listed seperately and you needed to register for it. I advise you to contact some of the professors and see if they would be willing to sign you in for the lab. If worse comes to worse then you'll have to retake the lecture part, but that should boost your gpa. Best of luck!

I think you'll be fine. Just finish up your pre-reqs and APPLY EARLY!! UOP fills up their class pretty fast so you want to make sure to be one the applicants they review in the first round.
