Hello everyone! I am currently winding down on finishing the last bit of my prerequisites for OD school. I have about three more semesters left until I plan on graduating with my bachelors in Kinesiological Sciences. I am planning to apply next summer as I should be finished with all the necessary prerequisites by then and I also plan on taking the OAT before the application cycle opens up. My only concern right now is how I should plan out studying while I am still taking classes that are going to be on the OAT. Here's an outline of the pre-reqs that I have taken thus far and when I took them and the ones that I still need to take. (I only listed the ones that are going to be somewhat relevant towards the OAT, I have completed all other needed prerequisites)

Anatomy & Physiology I- Fall 2014
Anatomy & Physiology II- Spring 2015
General Biology I- Fall 2016
General Biology II- Spring 2017
General Chemistry I- Spring 2017
General Chemistry II- Summer 2017 (Just finished taking)

Classes Still Needed:
Organic Chemistry I- Fall 2017
General Physics I- Fall 2017
General Physics II- Spring 2018
Biochemistry I- Spring 2018

I initially planned to start lightly studying for the OAT during my Spring 2018 semester which starts in January and ends in May. I was hoping to dedicate an hour or two each day to take time and review. Then as I approached closer to the test date, I was going to take a whole week off work and crunch in a great deal of hours.

One of my concerns are if studying for the OAT during a regular semester would be detrimental rather than beneficial based on the workload of classes. During my Spring 2018 semester I have to take a few Kinesiology classes needed for my major, which are typically just filler classes and are the least of my concern difficulty-wise. My last concern is if the OAT is going to destroy me in Organic considering how I am taking one semester of Organic, because that is all that is needed for OD school and since I am not a Biology major I don't need to take the other semester.

Any advice or feedback would greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

I would focus on your classes because the information you learn there will be a big help for your oat. I would start with a practice test and see what you need to focus on. From there you can split your time between your classes and your oat. As you get closer, focus more on the oat and take full length practice tests.

i had a whole plan to study during my fall 2016 semester (from august until the test day the first week of january with a lot of time planned over winter break)... it started out okay but once the semester picked up it got difficult to keep up with the workload and studying of the classes (and since you'll be taking physics and biochem you might have the same problem)... my advice would be to schedule your OAT after you have at least a month free of classes to study, or schedule it early enough so you can retake it after 3 months but still apply right when optomcas opens in july.

i did the worst on organic so definitely try to schedule time to study a lot for that subject since you'll only be doing one semester of it, and take good notes during class to make it easier to review when you go back and study it for the test.
