Advice for eventually matching general surgery

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do your surgery rotation first, bro. That gives you more insight (yea a lot of it is shadowing still, but) and allows you to connect more with residents and faculty and show off your clinical skills. Then do a Gen Surg sub-I to show off your gen surg chops.

You don't have to report a speeding ticket unless it was reckless driving iirc. I think they explicitly state when they ask about misdemeanors, they don't mean speeding/traffic violations. If they do see it, they won't care, lol.

Yea gen surg is competitive, but I also know people who matched with STEP1 fails, average grades, repeat year, etc. It's also not uncommon for IMGs to match gen surg.
