I am writing this post for my girlfriend, who is attempting to get into the pharmacy school at St. John Fisher in New York. She was all ready to apply for the Februrary 1st deadline and take the PCAT near the end of this month, but after talking to her friend who goes to St. John Fisher she has decided to wait. Why? I'm not really sure. She says she doesn't think she can get in, that she doesn't have enough community service? She works as a pharmacy tech at Rite Aid, and has a pretty solid GPA (I'm going to guess around 3.5). She hasn't gotten any letters of recommendation yet, but I'm sure she could knock out 3 or 4 within a week. She started studying for the PCAT this week, surely 3 weeks of solid studying time (she works two jobs but has off school until after the PCAT) should suffice, right? She has already taken all the core classes except for organic chem 2 which she is taking in the spring. Is there any advice I can give her in preparation for the test? I'm in the engineering field myself so I can't really help her out as I don't know what to expect, but maybe some words from the pros here can help her out a little. I will be showing her some posts I find here that will probably help her out a little but I figured I'd post this since every situation is unique. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Your girlfriend said that "she doesn't think she can get in". Well, how would your girlfriend know if she never attempted the PCAT?

Taking the PCAT at the end of this month will give her an insight on what the PCAT is all about. If she does great, then she has a chance to get in the school, if she doesn't do too great, then that means she knows what to study for next time.

Her stats, according to you, looks great...how long has she been a technician?

As for studying time, it's really how you are comfortable about the test.

Other then that, maybe she has a good reason in not taking the PCAT, who knows....another suggestion would be this....If she feels that she will not do well in the PCAT, let her take it anyways and let her choose the "No score" option, which means that Pearson, who runs the test, will not grade the test for her. In this case, she would know what the questions would be like, but I don't see how choosing the no score option would help if you don't know what to study for, unless while during the test you know a few sections you don't know, and just go from there.
