Hi everyone,

First, let me just say how much I appreciate everyone who contributes to this forum. I'm glad that so many of you are kind enough to share your experiences because they've really helped me navigate my way through this frustrating application process.

So here's the deal. I've been invited for an interview at NYU on March 7th. For those of you who interviewed there, I'd like to get your advice on a few things:

1. Where did you guys stay during your visit? Any recommendations on some affordable hotels?
2. What's the best way to get around the city?
3. What are some fun things to do while in NY (please no references to clubs. I know they're fun, but I'm too old and I already passed that phase of my life).

Please feel free to add anything that you think would help. Thanks everyone.

Congrats on the invitation to interview! I actually stayed with friends while I was there, so I'm not sure what the best place is to stay. We traveled the subways while we were there, it helps if you know people in the area that are willing to give you advice or help you around. While I was there I saw a broadway show and loved it! I also recommend visiting Central Park and Times Square. Good luck interviewing!

get a hotel in queens or brooklyn and then use the subway to get to nyu: thats the cheapest option

Congrats!! hopefully, i'll see you next year!

For my interview....

1.) I stayed at Hotel Marcel. nice, very close to nyu (5 min walk), and convenient.
2.)I took the subway most of the time and it was alot cheaper than taking a cab.
3.)I really didnt go out that much bc I wanted to save $$$

4.) GET THERE EARLY! the interview starts immediately upon arriving (after filling out the secondary app of course)
5.) not important but.. have your pic ID (driver lic, or school id) in hand before entering the building. For some reason they asked for my ID upon entering. Its for security reasons perhaps?
6.) Relax. the one on one interview is pretty laid back. (more of a conversation than interview)
7.) take advantage of the cafeteria

Hey guys,
From laguardia airport, whats best option to get to a hotel close by the school. Taxi? train ?bus?

There is actually a bus service that will take you to whichever hotel you choose. I forget the price but it's around 17 bucks i think. I don't remember the name of the service either😕, but don't rely on it too much if you need to be on time. It was close to an hour late when they dropped me off at my hotel from the airport, and picking me up from the hotel to the airport, they were close to an hour late as well... good deal though!

The bus is the supershuttle
just google it

yeah thats seems like the best option, the subway system is complex, not touching that

Congra. I am still waiting the interview offer from NYU. My application was completed on Dec. 6. 2007. Would you tell me that when your application were completed? Thanks a lot. Good luck for your interview.

I completed my application around early Dec, but my DAT marks weren't available until early Jan. I received the interview invitation on Feb 12th and it will be on Mar 3rd!

hope some snow storm doesnt show up...eeek

When I interviewed, I stayed at Hotel 17 (www.hotel17ny.com/). Your room will be small and you have a shared bathroom (not a dorm style bathroom but a home style bathroom in the hallway) but you really can't beat the price and it is only a 5-7 minute walk with lots of bagel and coffee places on the way. Sorta a sheik place where many celebs have stayed in the past and a Woody Allen movie was filmed there. I enjoyed it for the price and purpose.

As for the interview, just make sure you know why you want to be a dentist. Other than that just relax and be yourself.

Get a short-term metro pass and ride the subway everywhere. I would suggest going to Times Square, catching a broadway show, and if you are staying an extra few days you may want to try the MET if you are into art museums or the Natural History museum if you are into dinosaurs.

Good luck!

Bob

hotel 17 is probably the cheapest. land at laguardia and take the supershuttle to the hotel. will cost around 16-18 bucks one way.
