Hi everyone, I'm observing ENT surgery tomorrow morning for the first time and want to make sure I get as much out of it as possible. I haven't taken any anatomy classes yet, but I do want to understand what's going on, rather than just "ooh" and "ah." I've seen other types of surgery before, so the experience won't be completely new to me, but I don't really know where to start. I'm fairly certain that I'll be watching some polyps removed, but other than that I'm not quite sure what to expect. (The doctor named a couple procedures that I only half-understood, so it's tough to recall)

Would it be a good idea to look over the anatomy of the throat and nose? If so, I don't have an anatomy book. Is there a good online resource for me to check some of this out?

Thanks a ton!

Yes. Try to get an understanding of the anatomy that you'll be seeing in the cases. Don't try to cover too much; just what you will see. Read about the surgery itself- what is it? why is it done? what does it accomplish? what happens after the surgery?
