applied to gen surg this year, didn't match. managed to SOAP into a prelim spot at a top 10 program. planning to reapply to gen surg this year. What does the year ahead look like for me? Who should i be getting letters from (ie anyone from med school)? Does it matter when or how I do on step 3? What else can I do right now to boost my application? any advice or personal stories would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

- You're going to be worked
- Letters should be from your new program's PD, chair and respective attendings
- No
- Take the ABSITE and do well to show you're on your game

haha trust me, everyone has warned me of the misery. so no letters from my med school attendings? what can i do to prepare for intern year? been starting to read marino and sabiston

Find a hobby. Make time to work out. Find a nice place for the year. Have a good support. This year sucks emotionally psychologically and physically in ways you can’t understand until you’re eyeballs deep in it.

And I say this as someone who did a prelim year at a prestigious university program prior to matching into ortho.
