Hello everyone, I'm feeling a little lost in the process of getting shadowing hours. I'm a non-trad from a military/engineering background with no connections to doctors. I've tried cold calling around local hospitals and clinics here in the LA area to see if I could shadow, but i've had no luck. I even tried my local VA but they do not allow shadowing. Just wondering how everyone else was able to secure their shadowing hours? I'm planning on applying to MD and DO schools, so I believe I have to shadow both.

If you have any clinical experience I would suggest starting there. Supervisors, managers, other leaders, peers, etc. may have contacts that they can help bridge you with. You may want to reach out to academic centers and/or those within private practice. Academic centers are probably your best bet, but sometimes those within private practice are willing to extend that branch as well. Lastly, if you are on LinkedIN I would suggest attempting to find others who have a similar background/connection to you and see if they can help. Sometimes your network is all you need!
