Happy Friday everyone!

I am a rising 3rd year medical student and have received many emails about starting ground school soon. However, before beginning, I want to ensure that I am fully prepared of what is yet to come. I've read many blogs and horror stories describing year 3 and similarly, have heard inspiring stories as well.

Well, I really just wanted to make a thread to see if anyone had any advice on how to not only survive 3rd year but really thrive during it. SO any advice, from studying for shelf exams to finding your place at the hospital during rotations will be much appreciated! And in the same vein, any insights on sources used for studying for particular rotations?

Thanks in advance 🙂

Don't use Step Up to Medicine. Extremely low-yield. Very detailed. Use MKSAP questions for medicine + Case Files. Use First Aid for Psych Clerkship for that shelf. Read Pestana's book pretty much exclusively for the surgery shelf; it is pure gold. I was never as fond of any other study books for other shelves, but I got the highest possible shelf score on the above exams using those resources (and by avoiding wasting my time with the dictionary that is Step Up...blech).

Work hard. Show enthusiasm. Show up early. Be nice to your fellow rotators. Hope for the best (and for nice, human-acting teams).
