Hey yall,

First of all, I have already taken the DAT, but find the other forums for the actually applying process intimidating... so Im posting in the forum I feel comfortable with.. thus away from the big shark-trolls on the other forum.

My main question is.. is it too late to be submitting my AADSAS application?? I live in Georgia, and MCG (Medical College of Georgia - Georgia's only dental school) was/is really the only school I want to go to since my hometown is where it is located and its where my father's practice is (which I plan on taking over). That being said, MCG's application is not done via AADSAS, so I did it separately and have constantly debated to actually even fill out the AADSAS application. Recently I have heard that they HATE if you only apply to their school, so I felt I must apply to others.

I know you guys all read these "what are my chances" when seeing AA's 20 and above, and everyone gets a little cranky in they may seem like they are rubbing it in... but since I have/continue to post optimism, encouragement and suggestions on this forum, I hope I can get the same from my question.

Im a senior at a small liberal arts school in Georgia and got an AA/TS/PAT 20/21/21 on my DAT and have a 3.58 oGPA and 3.45 sGPA (lower end of competitive range). Some extracurriculars: Vice President for Beta Beta Beta, Secretary/VP of PR for National Society of Collegiate Scholars, multiple chair positions and volunteer activities through my fraternity Delta Sigma Phi, and multiple vertebrate anatomy drawings published in taxonomic/scientific article magazines. I have done 350-400 hours of shadowing my father and 5 other dentists and grown up around my fathers office etc. I weigh 175 lbs, my favorite color is green, I enjoy crab cakes and photography, and I my marital status is occupied (sorry tehehe, was already putting so much about myself, thought id continue har har)... PROCEEDING

EDIT: Im applying to Iowa, USC, UNC, Nova, Alabama, Kentucky, MCG, UF and NYU

I know the aspects above make me look like I'm trying to look for encouragement by boasting my scores/activities/family relation.. but that is not the case whatsoever, especially if you have seen my prior posts on this forum. MY QUESTION IS ... if these qualities/extracurriculars/DATscores/GPAs with a LATE AADSAS application will still get some some interviews... or is it kind of pointless to submit it this late? Thank you all for reading this long post.

It's not too late but you do have to hurry. Here's how the timing would work if you submitted today:

AADSAS receives your application and is now waiting to receive your transcripts so they can process the GPAs.

Transcripts sent from your school and arrives at AADSAS mail room at end of this week

It takes about a week for AADSAS to sift through their mail and confirm receipt of your transcript and put your application in the queue for processing.

Depending on the queue length it could be 2-3 weeks before they calculate the GPAs.

Takes 1 week to calculate GPAs and AADSAS to deem your application complete.

There's a lag of about week between the complete application and the date they will actually send the application to your schools both electronically and via postal mail.

Some schools won't review your application until they have the hard copy so add an extra week here for these schools.

It could be a good 5-7 weeks before schools will review your application which puts you somewhere around early to mid October.

Considering offers don't go out until the earliest Dec. 1, schools are still interviewing thru November for this first wave. Even if you don't make the timeline to be interviewed for this first wave, you're still early enough for subsequent interview dates for later acceptances.

I would express mail your transcript to expedite the timing by a week. (Every day transcripts are coming in which further backs up the queue.)

Btw, you're a well rounded applicant.

Dude, you should not all your hopes on one school. Apply to at least 8 or so. This is "just in case" s-h-i-t happens

I know I know, I just was beyond stressed while studying for the DAT that I didnt put too much time into researching the application process until after the test (which was recently).

And thank you LG2DS, whens your big day?
