So I've been waitlisted at a school I thought I would get accepted to, and now I want to cover my bases.

Any advice? Should I already start trying to improve my application? Contact admissions about it? Send update letters? I won't even hear a thing until March-April, so any ideas about what I should do now that I'm on hold?

There are other places I haven't heard from but I don't think I'll get invites from there.

I would send letters of interest to them if you think you have a shot of getting in. If you get rejected this cycle, call them and see what they think you need to improve, and do just that.

Waaay too early to pepper them with letters. Holds now means they're waiting to see who else they see in subsequent interviews. Many people get multiple acceptances so their withdrawals later in the cycle free up a gazillion spots and that makes the waitlists move.

The time to send a letter (one letter) is a few weeks before when the school's waitlist first starts to move. To find out when that is, ask them.
