Hi,

I am a foreign trained dentist trying to get an admit in a dental school here. the competition seems to be soo high that I'm thinking of other options like enrolling in a traditional 4 year DDS program. Does anyone know how difficult it is to get into the DDS program and the requirements for the same??
any kind of help appreciated.....

Have u taken part 1 yet?..If so u can give it a try & apply to schools..U might get admitted in a 3 yr program if not a 2 yr program..

Also the decision depends like if u don't want to move out of the state & the dental school in UR state doen't accept Foreign trained dentist...Then u might think of 4 yr program as an option.

Hope it helps :luck:

Hi dentist80,

I had also looked into the same option. The requirements are not the same. If you want to start all over again, you have to apply as everyone else. You won't get any credit for the four year dental school you have already done & they won't consider part 1 as a plus point.
There are some pre-requisites that need to be done, some schools require 2 & some three year pre-dental college level. These include bio, math, eng, chem etc.
As back home, I had joined dental school after completing high school so they wanted me to do the 2 yr pre-dental college first, then take DAT test & apply for dental school. So it takes 6 yrs to get a DDS degree.
The competition is tuogh too as DAT exam is not easy.

Hope this helps, let me know if you still have any questions.

The pre-dental courses are also offered in community colleges & doing them at community college is much cheaper as the tution is much less. So check out nearby community college. But the problem is some dental schools require you to take them at universities at the dental school. So it all depends upon which dental school you are interested in applying for & check out with them if they accept the pre-dental done at community college.
I didn't go this route as it is taking such a long.

Hi detist80.Since youve already taken part1 and part2 you don't have to go to four years dental school. If your scores are as good as you think they are,you will be accepted. If your part 1 is below 85,you have to retake it.It is better than to go to school for four years, that is my honest opinion. Why don't you tell us your scores. If you have good scores you will be accepted.
Good luck.
