1) Any info/opinions/feed backs on Temple neurology, Philly & University of Vermont Neurology?

2) Is doing bench research for a full year prior to starting full time residency a good idea? will it help me if I want to do a PhD after my residency??

You could do a 2 or 3-year fellowship with research in an area that you like after you complete your residency (and you will be better paid vs doing it now). Doing a year between MD and residency is ok, but probably won't help you much other than make you decide whether you like bench research or not. By the time that you finish your residency and the clinical part of your fellowship, the field will have moved enough that you will spend the first 6 months reading stuff.

Thus, I will advice not to do it between earning MD and residency.

FYI: I am a PhD MD, and did my PhD after my MD. Getting back to clinical and then back to research was painful.

Hi! I'm really interested in Neuroscience research. I wonder if there are many PhD scholarships available in the field? If you would be paying the tuition from your own pocket, how much would it be? My game plan is to do residency, save money, and go for MS/PhD. If it's not possible, well Im hoping residency training will at least let me get some foothold...Thanks is advance!
