Hi everyone 🙂

I am currently doing research through a summer program at my university. The summer program requires that we complete 200 hours by July 15. I have a ready completed 270 hours. It is important to note that I am also collecting data for my senior thesis through my summer research. I would also like to take a 6 week class on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and the professor is wonderful (he only teaches this class in the summer). If I take the class, I would only be able to go to lab on Tuesdays and Thursdays and complete about 15 hours a week for the remainder of the summer. Additionally, I am kind of like a teaching assistant (not officially) for my professor and there are many new students that need help, training, and supervision. I am usually in the lab around 40 to 60 hours a week . I also tutor students outside of the lab to go over theory and their lab notebooks even though I am not required to do so.

I am very happy and I love doing research and my professor trusts me and I don't want to seem like I am going MIA since I am always in the lab. Also, I will continue working on this project next school year. Therefore, I am wondering if it would be best for me to take the course and do research ~15 hours a week or should I only work on collecting data for my senior thesis and help my professor for the rest of the summer?

Thank you in advance for all of your great advice! 😉

This sounds like you shouldn't be asking strangers but rather the professors who you will be working for and studying from. If these are professors you hope to approach for LORs later, don't burn both bridges by trying to be everything to everyone. Also, it's summer and you're in college. 40-60 hours plus class doesn't sound like a fun time.
