I'm entering medical school next year, and I'm considering pursuing Pathology.

While I know that there is a high possibility I will change my mind during medical school, I wanted to hear -- from an actual student rotating or a resident --what this field entails.

The reason I'm leaning toward this specialty is because I'm one of those people that actually enjoys lab work (and who is good at it) and any sort of procedural assignment. Also, I'm on the introverted side of the spectrum and I'm not sure I would like to deal with patients on a daily basis (I have been an MA and shadowed, so I have some idea of what it's like to have 50 people in the waiting room of a clinic, and to deal with them...most of the patients are nice, but again, there were days when I wasn't sure if I enjoyed it, although some days I seemed to be just fine with it).

Please share your experiences, your perceptions, possible working hours (a good lifestyle / hours is important to me, since I do place a high value on my personal time...I don't need to have the highest salary as long as I don't have to sacrifice much time with family and friends).

Thank you! 😍

This is an oft asked question... not sure if most will be willing to rehash their answers. Yaah's FAQ sticky has some good information and resources to direct your research. Try starting there to see if some of your questions get answered. Path docs and residents at your school are also good resources-- talk to them, see if you can shadow and check it out first hand.
