Hi all,

I've been out of school for a while now since 2007. I want to apply to pharmacy school but I don't know where to begin to get letters of recommendation. Should I just take classes at the local community college and ask the professors there? They are a CC though while my degree is from a 4 year university.

Finally, my application isn't very good with my 2.8 gpa. For those who have reapplied, what are the kind of things that you've done to improve your application?

Thank you.

I'm not a reapplicant but thought I could help anyway. You should do some research on the schools you are planning on applying to. Look at their average GPA and minimum GPA required. Some schools require at least a 3.0 gpa to even be considered, otherwise don't waste your time or money because they are not even going to look at it. I really suggest looking into retaking classes to boost your GPA. What was your degree in at your 4 yr university? Make sure you have all your prerequisites completed as well.

Not all LORs have to come from professors. I've been out of school since 2006 and am accepted to start pharm school in the fall. Two of my letters (out of 3) came from coworkers who could attest to my work ethic, personality, and intellectual capabilities. It probably would be nice to have at least one professor letter. Perhaps you had a good relationship with one who would remember you?

You may want to consider taking coursework at a CC for no other reason but to bring up your GPA. Getting your cumulative above the "soft floor" of 3.00 would be extremely beneficial to your application. It would also enable you to get the LoRs you need.

What is your degree in?
