I have more than 5 years experience as a general dentist the united states .I got my D.D.S degree overseas though .I APPLIED FOR ENDO PROGRAMS LAST 2 YEARS NO LUCK .. I WANT TO DO SOMETHING THAT WILL HELP ME TO GET ACCEPTED ..ANY SUGGESTIONS?? My boards were in the 80s
I'M COSIDERING GPR, AEGD...
I'M married, have one kid so I worry about financial expenses
Any input will be greatly appreciated

It is extremely hard to get into endo. Your best bet is to apply for an internship, or a position as a prof at a school that has an endo program. If you are willing to sacrifice several years building your resume by doing another specialty that is another option. A gpr or aegd with five years experience is a waste in my opinion. Best of luck and remember general dentistry has so much to offer, and you can do all the endo you want.

From everything I've heard if you boards aren't in the 90s endo is pretty tough to get into. I would go talk to some endo departments of schools in person to see what they say.

1. Board scores do matter to an extent.
2. Why endo?
3. Are you interested in endo research?
4. In general 3 year programs are probably easier to get into than a two year.
5. I don't think doing an AEGD or GPR will benefit you, yes try an externship.

Hi Bluesky
I guess I am in the same boat as you...practicing in the US for over 6 years. Licensed but received dental training overseas.
When I decided to pursue endo (hopefully i will) I thought a good plan would be to take a university CE course. Took a month long course grad endo in Chicago UIC. Spoke to grad students and professors .Noticed had some weakness in the CV. The road was simply uphill.
So....started working towards adding "weight" to CV. Completed FAGD, had 6 publication in national and specialty journals (3 on endo), shadowed local endodontist. Did what I could to make a decent CV.
I hope all this pays off in 2010.
I don't know the future of all that hardwork but the journey was rewarding.
