So here is my situation: I am currently scheduled to take step II mid -October. I already submitted my application and know that it will be reviewed by most schools by early to mid November (or sooner) for interview invites. Because of the new step II software, I am anticipating step II scores to come in end of Nov., or even early Dec.

I got a 223 on step I, but I'm fourth quarter in my class, so really want to (and feel that I can) do well on Step II to boost my application. So my questions are:

1- If programs get my step II score in early dec, will it have ANY impact on my application whatsoever, or will they have already looked at my app and decided by then?

2- Assuming they already have looked at it once and put it in the 'do not interview' or 'maybe interview' file, can I email them individually and say 'hey I did well on step II, can you review my file again?' and will this help at all? Has anyone tried to do this?

3- When is the last time frame programs review apps to hand out interviews? (I know ppl interview in Jan, but I'm assuming these interviews were handed out earlier...so when is the last time the programs go through apps?)

If you can answer any one of these questions, or have any feedback, I'd appreciate it! Thanks guys... 🙂

This has been answered before, but before I give you the "Fatty McFatty Pants", and send you searching, I'll give you the quick answer. Especially in EM there are really only three board scores: 1. "oops, that ain't good", 2. "oh my gosh, do scores really come that high" and 3. everybody else. You are firmly in number 3. So, step two is unlikely to help one way or the other unless you get such an incredible score as to be in the #2 group above. The risk, of course, is that you bomb it and then the score becomes available for review. My advice, and YMMV, is to "stand pat" with your score and delay step 2 until a time when the score won't be availoble for review.

My class rank really sucked (I guess the bad karma from sleeping in class every day came back to bite me in the...) and I still got decent interviews. I took Step II early to 'boost' my application in late November and ended up getting roughly the same score.
