Hi,
So right now I'm currently at IUPUI (Indiana Uni-Purdue Uni- Indianapolis) majoring in Pre-med Bio
I just finished my Freshmen and doing summer school right now.
Basically my first semester as a Freshmen was just a complete waste of my time. My advisor didn't think I could handle the classes well (I'm an international student) so I was only registered for only 12 credits USELESS classes. I finished my second semester off with GPA of 4.0
My second semester I took 18 credits courses (Bio, Gen chem, Pre-calc, English) and I got 3.8 for that. Bio +lab, Gen chem+lab and english I got an A for all those classes. But I got B+ for precalc. Right now my GPA com is 3.88
I'm talking Gen Chem II with lab in this summer and planning to take calc, english, ochem+lab and bio+ lab next fall.
My have volunteered at a local hospital since last semester and worked as a freshmen worker in the bio department.
I'm planning to try to take MCAT next year just to see how it would be like so then I can have a good idea when I take it again when i'm a junior.

My questions are :
- As i'm an international student, it would be even HARDER for me to apply to ANY med schools....what should I do to make me stand out when I apply? I'm considering doing the EDP (Early Decision Program) with...well I don't know yet. I was going to do it with Cornell but...it reserves for only ONE person so I don't think I would be that one. And lets face it, Even though I think my school is an EXCELLENT school and I like it a lot, it's not a 'big name' school like the ivies or UCLA or stanford.
- What other med schools that I should be looking at? I'm considering Pritzker as well...
- and of course,...what are my chances of getting acceptace into good med schools...?? well I think most med schools are good. let me rephase it ... what are my chances of getting into renowned med schools?

With my grades right now...i'm hoping to keep them up like this...as long as i can.

Thank youuuu in advance for any advices !!!
Best of luck, Y'all

1. Stand out by doing things beyond pure numbers. Extensive shadowing, community service, and research (a publication = standout). Don't do EDP. I doubt anyone gets accepted as an International student through EDP. Not worth the risk.

2. The schools you look at will be based on your MCAT. No matter how good your GPA, your MCAT will determine what type of med school you should be considering. That being said, don't go take the MCAT officially for fun - it will go on your record (just in case it is not good). Take the practice exams and then see how you are doing. Until we (meaning SDN) have MCAT data, it will be really hard for us to say anything about your chances.

thanks for your advice. So I cannot take the MCAT without sending the score to med schools? It will be in my record no matter what?
