I am not nearly as experienced nor as important as half the people that replied to this thread, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
The application season is stressful for everyone but, in my experience as an applicant this current cycle, having a stellar GPA/MCAT combo makes the cycle (and, by extension, the world -- haha) a much less painful and -- dare I say -- even enjoyable process. Having competitive numbers gives you one less thing to worry about in what is already an inherently stressful endeavor. Stats truly are not everything, but they sure do matter, especially for peace of mind (which I would argue is the most valuable asset one can have during the application cycle).
All of that was to say that I agree with the majority of opinions in this thread -- wait until next year. But I wanted to additionally suggest that you take the opportunity to really blow your current MCAT score out of the water with a fantastic re-take score. Seriously, the effort will be worth it, especially with that excellent GPA you've got. Again, I preface the following statement with the disclaimer that I am merely another applicant, but: if you can score >515 or even 510 on a retake, you will almost certainly be looking at a significantly more successful cycle than applying with a 4.0/<505.
Good luck, OP. Retake your MCAT (but not without some serious, dedicated studying -- do not retake if you can't pull a >510 score), build up your resume during your spare time this year between studying for the MCAT, and apply next early next year (not in mid-September! Get your AMCAS in the day it opens).
