Hey
I just graduated high school and i am going to Oregon State Univ. in the fall. I was just wondering if medical schools accept more students who go to private schools or those who go to state schools, does your chances of admission to medical school increase if you go to a private school? Does it make a signifcant difference if you attended a well known school such as Cornell and whatnot compared to attending less known schools such as OSU?
i dont think that OSU is the best place for me, and my pre med track but this is just specualtion right now. I havent attended yet so i dont know anything really, classes start sept 27th. I think that i want to transfer to another college, one that has a better pre med program. I dont have a clue of what specs are needed to tranfer? Does the new school look at high school stuff? like SATS n whatnot. What can i do to incrase my chances of getting admission to the transfer school? Do i just need to get a GPA close to a 4.0?The only reason i am tranfering is that i want to get the best chances of gaining entry to medical school, and if OSU is going to drag me down, i am leaving it.
Also i dont know many good pre med colleges, the only one i know is JHU. What other collges have good pre med programs? Also i hear that there are some colleges that offer a 8 year program where you dont need to take the MCAT? what schools offer that? Can i transfer to those schools? Are those programs any good?
I took 3 classes in the summer at PSU (Portland State Univ) its a 4 year univ., Calc 1, writing 121, and US Hist 202 and got A's in all of them. In the fall i will be taking chem 201, bio 201, psychology 201 (i think) and OSU odessy which is just an Intro to college class. Hows my schedule? What other classes are needed for entry to med school and what other ones do you recommend?
Any adivce would be helpful, Thanks!
