Is it better to apply early (send in AACOMAS in June) with a lower gpa
or retake a couple C's over the summer and wait for those grades to clear and then send in apps around August? I feel it would make a huge difference
in my gpa to have it a little higher but will it hurt me in the end since
i will be applying later?

thanks guys

I guess it really depends on how much of a difference it would make in your GPA. You didn't post any numbers though. August is not that late, and if it is really a dramatic change, then I would do that. If not, then apply earlier. Good luck!:luck:

what if I were to send in the apps in June, the take my classes
and have my grades updated, would that work? Do the schools
look at the new gpa? And are secondaries given out based on gpa/mcat or does
everyone get one?

I'm not sure how the updates work (although, eventually the schools will have all the grades).

Most schools have a cutoff GPA for whom they send 2ndaries to. For many it's a 3.0 science, but some go down to 2.7. You'll have to check each school individually.

As for timing, the DO school app cycle runs later than the MD cycle, so it's not as big of a disadvantage to apply in the early fall. For example, my primary was submitted at the end of October and I still received 8 interview offers.

So if its going to boost the GPA a lot, you're not going to lose much by submitting in August/September. Just make sure everything's ready to go as soon as possible.

It's not complicated dude.

I love how I called PCOM over the summer before submitting AACOMAS and they informed me that to be considered I'd have to have at least a 3.2 in both science and cumulative GPA even with a high MCAT.

First rule of the application process:

Don't listen to what everyone says.

hmm so who should i listen to if i cant
trust the actual school itself? haha

Me.

Applying early ususally outweights a few hundredths in your GPA

Early in the year schools are more likely to accept students with lower numbers, whereas later in the year they are selective to those top applicants still left.

Apply early, retake the classes and update your application
