hey guys i am currently a senior at university . i took the dat and scored poorly on it because i was immature and thought i could ace it without any studying. i am taking it in july and will study two full months for it along with the online class. i was wondering what you guys think about the online kaplan course as i plan to take it for two months? also, when requesting a LOR from a professional and you plan on applying to multiple schools, can you just get the evaluator to make copies of his/her LOR they wrote for you? thanks guys

I would say only to take the Kaplan course if you are unable to study by yourself and need that push to make yourself study.

1) Spend a little time in the DAT sub forum here, there is lots of good info there that will help you out

2) Read up on how the application process works. It takes one letter to AADSAS, not to multiple schools.

I think Kaplan online stuff is great. It's interesting how everyone thinks Kaplan is for those who are too "lazy" to do any work on their own. Anyways....I think its great b/c it analyzes what you do and do not know so you can study harder on the things that you fail to grasp the first time around. It's smart to use the resources around you-- if you go through Kaplan and do the problem sets again that you get below 90% you should do well on the test. Just make sure you give yourself a day or two and mix up subjects before you do it again to see if you actually know it or just memorized the answers.

Also supplement the kaplan bio with barron's bio... should do the trick. May be topscore exams--I bought those but don't remember how useful they were...

Other than that you probably are good to go as long as you put in the effort!

Good luck!

Kaplan's online material is pretty good. I took the classroom version. I didn't think the classroom part was very useful, but the online portion was useful bc it gave me deadlines and had a lot of practice material. I think they had about 7 full length tests when I took it.

I didn't take them all, but they were there if I needed them. They also had some quizzes after most of the small bio/chem/ochem sections.

But in the end, Kaplan or not, it really depends on how much effort you put in.

If you have money, Kaplan can't hurt....I personally don't, so I relied on 2nd hand materials/topscore. I'd say review your old bio notes, some of those DAT study books, and take practice tests to identify your flaws. I did OK on the DAT considering I studied for it/took it with my jaw wired shut (long story, awesome summer.. ;/). It depends on you, I'm the kind of student who can sit down for 5 hours in a day and pound stuff out without a deadline, if you procrastinate a lot, Kaplan would probably be very useful.
