Hey everyone. I am going to be starting medical school in august at my state school and have a few general questions about getting financial assistance from the military---specifically from the navy or air force.

1) Where do you do your residency after school?--with the military or do you go through the same match as everyone else?

2) Are you absolutely guaranteed a medical officer's position when you are commissioned? I ask this because I know people who did something like ROTC while they were doing their engineering degree and were informed that they might not get a engineering post when they entered the service.

3) How flexible is the military in terms of what specialties you can choose?

4) How satisfied do you feel with you medical career in the military and can you compare it with life outside the military...thanks!

Please spend some time reading the stickies on the forum. All of these questions have been answered ad nausem.

I agree..everything you are asking can be answered in the stickys or in other threads a little further back. Many of the questions you have asked have been topics in the past month.

Maybe its petty of me, but this almost felt like a med stud writing agree with above on an attending's note. Kinda made me smile.

I don't know about you, but it is getting a bit tiresome continually answering the same basic questions.

I just ignore people when they ask questions that show they've made no effort to read through the forum. But, if I felt obligated to answer them, it would be tiresome to me too.

Is all of this info on the HPSP website? I did a quick google search and couldn't find it.

But we should label a sticky. "The Basics: Read this Before Posting"

Yeah umm I dont really ever look at that. I prolly wouldnt have posted if I saw it was an attending. I just read what people have to say. Not what their "rank" in the medical world is. I do have to admit it is kinda of humorous that I didnt realize that. HAHA
