Ok so i am almost mid way through my junior year. Going into this semester my gpa was a 3.18. My first semester freshman year i had a 2.4 and since then i have had above a 3.5 every semester. I am looking at around a 3.7 this semester. What kind of DAT score do i need to be competitive when applying next year. I am taking the kaplan course next semester and finish finals the first week of may. I plan to study and then take the dat in june. Do you guys have any advice for me or any idea of what score is needed for me to be accepted? Do schools really care about upward trends? What is the minimum cutoff gpa for most schools? Any advice is greatly appreciated

IMO to be competetive for schools (depending upon the school) a gpa of 3.2-3.5 is a general range. There are students that are admitted with lower, but 3.0 is USUALLY the recommeneded minimum for consideration with a lot of schools. I would say a DAT of 20+ is in order and well within reach. Good Luck

It shouldnt matter what score you "need" with that GPA, because if i say 21 are you going to only shoot for a 21? Study hard and it will payoff, the higher the score the better.
Also adcoms like to see an upward trend so it not just about having a 3.x, its more about how well you did/do in your science courses, were you improving or getting worse, and WHAT DOES THE REST OF YOUR APPLICATION LOOK LIKE! Just as important as GPA is EC's and LOR's and even your PS all together.

Do good in your classes from now on, and work on compiling a stellar application and you will be in dental school in the near future!

Good Luck👍

I agree with Tommy! I would consider myself an average applicant with a 3.6 ogpa and a 3.56 sgpa and 20 aa in the DAT but I have been getting straight A's the past two years. Last year I had no interviews, I worked hard, volunteered, and have been much more successful this year. Good luck!
