I'm applying for fall of 2011. I will graduate this year with a BS in Biology with a 3.62GPA and BCMP of a 3.56ish. I took the MCAT and didn't do very well so I decided to just wait a year. After studying my butt off, and practicing verbal, my scores have greatly improved. Is my GPA way to low for a MD school? I am going to a post-bac program this year 2010-2011 for something to do so I can keep my health insurance through my parents. I have a internship in the OR (400hrs-Paid and 400-Volunteer). What else should I be doing. I'm gong to retake the MCAT in May.

Pennsylvania. I'm defiantly applying to both DO schools. I also heard from a friend that Drexel looks at the whole person more. Other than that internship I don't really have EC's. I work in the pharmacy part time and volunteer for a bio club. What else can I be doing?

I'll be a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. The premed director said Pitt doesn't like to take their own students. So I'm probably not even going to waste my money since he said that.

I'm not really hung-up on the whole MD/DO thing either. I just want to be a country OB/GYN. I don't see how being either will hold me back.

GPA is fine. Clinical work is fine. Sounds like your MCAT will be fine. Just look into your other ECs -- maybe try to do some research or something that shows leadership skills. Make sure you have solid LORs.

I have two terms of research and published a poster. I forgot about that.

I got a C in Physics 2 last term. I missed a week for a funeral and then my mom got MS. It was a rough term.

I also have a C+ and C in organic labs. I have a B+ and B in Orgo 1 and 2. A's in calc 1 and 2 and gen chem 1 and 2 and labs.

Those are really my only bad grades, but lowered my GPA.

I think you'll be fine. Apply broadly if you're worried. Well, apply broadly even if you aren't worried.

You seem to have a decent plan already. Kick ass with those post-bacc classes (your GPA is fine and close to mine, but improvement never hurts), do that internship, and rock the MCAT.

I guess you could also look into doing some research or something for leadership (tutoring), provided you have the time to do so. You could even take some time on the side to learn a new language just for kicks. There are some very cheap alternatives to Rosetta Stone you can find. Basically just stay productive and apply early as possible next cycle.

EDIT: Just don't overload yourself. Priority should always go to your classes and MCAT study over an extra EC, IMO. Meh, too many acronyms...
