Advice Needed

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
1) Only some schools look down on or do not accept community college credits for pre-reqs. As long as you do well on the MCAT, you should be fine, as long as you don't need to go to Yale.

2) Yes. Why not? If you are already a year ahead, there is no use rushing into the application process if you think your ECs are lacking. Spend one easy year building up the other areas of your application, and then apply when you feel confident in every area.

Thanks! I'm really considering taking that extra year to make sure everything is perfect.

1. It really depends. A lot of people will tell you that it doesn't matter, and some will tell you that it will. Since I'd rather err on the side of caution, I would take the pre-reqs (all of them) at an actual 4-year uni. I only spent a year at a CC getting my GPA up and taking my general education courses before I transferred, so my situation is a little different.

2. Yes, I would wait another year. You want to make sure all your ducks are in a row, so I definitely wouldn't apply until you have more EC's/shadowing/volunteering under your belt, have taken the pre-reqs and the MCAT, and everything else. You want to make sure that everything is set for your application, so you're not missing anything.

1. I'm a student who took some pre-reqs at a community college during high school (Gen chem and some bio), so I'll soon have some personal experience on whether it hurts or not.
2. I'd agree with the above posters that you should take the extra time to prepare the strongest application you can.
