So Freshmen year was less than admirable for me. I did terrible and ended up with a cGPA of 2.75. Well, in my second year I decided my real goal in life was to pursue medicine. Last semester I managed a 3.75 with this semester looking to be a 4.0 (knock on wood lol). I plan on taking a Calc class during Maymester and retaking one of my C's which one was in an American Govt. class. My question is, do you think I should retake another C? I was thinking of doing Calc in Maymester, and American Govt. and Spanish (another C🙁) in the Summer. If I make the projected grades I'm shooting for, my cGPA would from a ~3.3 to be a 3.71 (in terms of DO GPA of course). Any advice would certainly be helpful.🙂

Personally, I wouldn't retake those classes. None of them sound important. 3 C's in your transcript is no big deal. It's nice to shoot up to a 3.7, but if your projected final GPA (keeping up your current work) is 3.5+, you have almost nothing to worry about.

I have a similar problem. My GPA trend seems to be steady with a 3.4. However, this semester was a little harder in terms of rigor. I don't know if I am going to pass one of my classes. Has anyone made a D in a class and still made it into DO school?

If it's a D in a pre-req you have to retake it.

no. it's an upperlevel science course. all my prereqs are done and there are no C's. that's why I am stressing over this potential D.

lol I got a straight up F in calculus. Never retook it. Starting medical school this fall.

Everyone's situation is a little different, though. I'm 6 years out of undergrad with many years experience as a paramedic. I'm not really sure how the "black box" of med school adcoms viewed my app as a whole.

I got a D in multi-variable Calculus haha and I also start med school this fall

Only real reason to retake a course is if the course is a pre-req or upper level science. Especially if you are dishing out a lot of money to retake the course

close call. I don't know how I got a C in that class, but I'll take it.
