Hi, I'm a M3 interested in anesthesiology however the classes before me are severely lacking in people who pursued this field. I'm looking for any advice to be a competitive applicant and hopefully match at one of my desired programs. My top 2 currently are UAB and Vanderbilt, but I would be fine with any good to great program in the southeast region.

As for my current stats, I'm in a US MD program, my Step1 is 259, I'm in the top 20% of my class, and I have participated in a summer's worth of research that is pending publication.

I'm looking for any advice and/or pointers and feedback.
If this is not the proper place to post this I apologize!

Thanks!

Anesthesia isn't particularly competitive for US MDs. You'll get interviewed at basically any program in the country with stats like yours. I was a DO with a 237 and I interviewed at UAB, dont sweat it.

Matched last cycle and can echo the above poster. I had lower stats with interviews and a few "top" places. You'll be fine.

-Internal Medicine (categorical) offered 6,524 positions, of which 48.5 percent were filled by U.S. seniors
(the lowest U.S. senior fill rate in the last 30 years) and 99.1 percent by all applicants, down from an
all-time high of 99.4 percent in 2013.
-Fill rates by U.S. seniors (categorical: 59.1% and advanced: 68.9%) and all applicants (categorical: 88.3%
and advanced: 94.2%) for Diagnostic Radiology were among the lowest in the past 15 years.
-Fill rates by U.S. seniors (63.5%) and all applicants (93.6%) for Anesthesiology (advanced) were among
the lowest in the past 15 years. The fill rate of Anesthesiology (categorical) by U.S. seniors (71.9%) was
the lowest since 2004.

TLDR - You'll be fine. Anesthesiology is easy to match into if you're an AMG.

Anesthesiology is losing it's appeal and glamor. Don't sweat it, kid.....you'll be fine. Soon anesthesiology will be like family practice where you just need a pulse to get accepted.
