I need some advice. My sister is thinking of applying to an abroad medical school, however, her grades are not very stellar. To put a very long story short, she finished college but didn't have the easiest time there. It has nothing to do with how smart she is or how motivated. When she was going through college it was just a very emotionally and physically bad time for her. Anyways, her gpa is below 3.0 but now she is ready to get her life on track and I wanted to see if anyone has any advice. Is it worth it for her to apply to a foreign school? I am not sure what grades their looking for. Also, she hasn't finished all the prereqs and is there a way that some school could help her do that? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

She could go to a Jr college to finish the prerecs and ace them.
I'm not sure what the foreign schools are looking for exactly. I know that their standards have gone up over the years but are still lower than US MD schools. As far as which to apply to, I personally, would only apply to St. George's, Ross, or AUC. Although outside of that I do believe their standards get lower.
I got into a top three pretty easily. My undergrad gpa is pretty bad, under 3.0 but my grad school GPA is a 4.0 and my MCAT is pretty decent. In the end I've decided to defer my acceptace to the carribb school and apply to a US MD program again.

Go to the post-baccalaureate forum. She will need the pre-reqs no matter where she goes. She will also need an MCAT score to get into the more reputable foreign schools. If she does extremely well in her pre-req courses and the MCAT, maybe a U.S. admissions committee will overlook her past transgressions.

Good luck to her.
