Hi,
I'm a junior taking the MCAT and applying to med schools this summer, hoping to just get some advice!!

Currently have a 3.74 cgpa somewhere around 3.6 sgpa -- cgpa will probably be somewhere in 3.65 - 3.7 range by the time I apply.

I switched from pre-physical therapy to biology/pre-med late, causing a super science heavy overload to stay on track for on time graduation - lowering grades a little.

Ok shadowing, 75-100 hours with docs by application time, 200+ healthcare related volunteer hours, and have worked (paid with direct patient care/contact) in a hospital while in school for almost a year now on 3rd shifts with radiology department.

On D2 track/cross country sports teams for 2 years of undergrad, president of good sized volunteer-oriented club, and member of honor-societies!
Limited research experience, but I've gotten into a group this year and I'm trying to accumulate hours!
Anything more I should be doing??
I'm a white male resident of Michigan!

Do you guys have any ideas of schools I should be applying to? I don't mind DO or MD, but like bigger cities! MCAT is obviously a huge portion, and my goal is to get 500+ for sure.. Are there any study tips you've found that really work well for MCAT??

I go to an out of state smaller private school, with good sciences and known for pre-vet programs.. Will that hurt me?

Thanks for the advice, I'm having a sort of pre-mature freakout about it all.

Start with all MI schools.

Then come back when you have an MCAT score, and then we can better advise.

MCAT is definitely a huge part of the equation. hard to say without a score.
something that worked for me when studying for the new MCAT was doing short term memory exercises. you want to be able to read the passages and retain what you read or at least remember where to find helpful info in the passage quickly. try this exercise: read a CAR passage (aim for 3.5 minutes per ~700 word passage) all the way through. when you finish the passage, write down EVERYTHING you remember that you just read. go back and read it a second time. again, write down everything you remember that you didn't write down after the first run through. repeat this a third or fourth time if necessary. i did this for around 70 passages and i saw an improvement in how much i was able to recall. during the actual MCAT I never referred back to a CARs passage to answer the questions. this helped me score higher and finish the section under time.
