Hi,

I'm trying to decide whether or not I should pick an out of state (UCSD/UCSF) school for PharmD.

Right now I've already been accepted to an in-state program for PharmD.

You'd think it would be a no brainer right? For me it hasn't been. I'm hoping to do a dual degree program, (PharmD/PhD). I want to have at least some research experience while I'm at Pharmacy school, and I'd be really happy if I wound up coming out of a program after 7/8 years with both degrees able to work in industry and drug trials. Yes I know this is unrealistic but for the sake of argument imagine that it's possible. I feel like UCSD/UCSF is the place to go for this kind of biomedical/drug discovery research stuff, and the in-state program might be not as much. The research faculty at UCSD at the very least seems to be the kind of stuff I'd be pretty interested in. I'm sure that both programs offer the PharmD training I'll need, that goes without saying. What I can't figure out is whether UCSD (and UCSF to some extent) is the place to go and spend an extra 100K, most of it loan debt, to achieve these ends.

I'm willing to admit right now I have an emotional bias towards wanting to go to UCSD because it was the school I wanted to go to for undergrad, but instead I wound up going in-state to get my bachelor's. I really want to get out of state because if I don't do it now I feel like I'll get stuck in-state.

Any thoughts I'd appreciate. If you're feeling sassy and cynical about the things I'm saying, feel free to reply as well. The only people I don't really want replying are people who don't have bachelor's degrees/some college experience. Because come on, man.
