Hello everybody! I was wondering if someone could comment on the strength of my ECs along with some general advice. I am a first generation Hispanic-American fluent in both English and Spanish. I was an Economics major in college and do not have any research experience given my school's science department size and my non-traditional major.
220 hours: Volunteering as an MA/Interpreter at a free medical clinic for the underserved (99% of the patient population is Hispanic and 90+% does not speak English). The majority of the providers who came to volunteer were Primary Care physicians and I worked closely with them.
75 Hours: Developed my own mentorship program at a Title 1 (low SES) elementary school in which I worked with a group of boys ages 9-11 weekly over their past school year, also unpaid.
50 hours: Orthopedic Surgery shadowing
450 hours: College basketball at the junior college level. Injury during the season led me to medicine.
I was wondering if my time as an MA/interpreter makes up for the fact that I am missing PCP shadowing? I am looking to apply this cycle and will be posting a WAMC when I receive my MCAT score (Mid June). Any other tips? Thank you!
