Hi, I just transferred to a university and am now a junior. I had a bad year at CC and got Cs in biology. I was wondering what people would recommend. retaking biology or just taking more advanced biology.

My GPA is currently a 3.3 but my prereq is under a 3.0. I got over a 3.5 last year and am doing well this year, but I am a psychology major. Any advice would help.

I got As in physics and Bs in chem except for a C+ one quarter, and I have B+ or better in everything else. Its crazy how Cs will drag your GPA down so much.

I'd personally retake a course if I got a C in it. It's not that you can't get in with having a C here and there, but I'd want to be as far above 3.0 overall (and prereq) as possible to make yourself most competitive. Especially if it doesn't threaten applying in your preferred application cycle, consider retaking it. If it does, maybe move forward and try to get A's and B's on everything else.

I talked to an advisory at Pacific University and she recommended just taking extra upper level biology classes and doing well in those. It will be tougher but would probably look better.

Also, many schools will take the highest grade in your prereq calculations. most still use all your grades for Cum Average
