Hey guys! Any advice on how to study for the DAT? Any rec for good prep books?I was a premed student but then decided to go predental this summer. I'm planning to take it on Aug 16th. Only 4 weeks to study. I'm seriously freaking out. Any advice on how to cram? I'm going to send in my app in August. Is that too late?

Also if my GPA was 3.69 and science GPA was 3.54, what are my chances of getting into NYU(1st choice-I live in NY)? What DAT scores would I need?

Jennie

Did you take the MCAT? I was just wondering why pre-med students switch really fast during their junior year of college. You'll need to explain why dentistry is you calling and 2 months to realize that may not be what admissions is looking for. A dat score of 19 will probably get you in somewhere.

Here are the stats for 2004-2005...

New York University
Academic DAT: 19
Perceptual DAT: 18
Overall GPA: 3.14
Science GPA: 3.01

So yeah, your GPA is well above average (this of course depends on the context of where you went to school). As long as you don't bomb the DAT, you'll get in (they enroll > 200 students).

To play devils advocate though... are you aware of the cost of attending NYU? The ADEA estimates total expenses for 4 years at NYU (tuition, books, living expenses) at over $300,000 😱

So you might want to apply to the SUNYs.

Hope this helps and best of luck to you!

I never took the MCAT. I did register for it in April but canceled it. I've been working in a doctor's office for over a year now and the state of healthcare with insurances is really horrible. The doctor spends so much time on insurances rather than patient care so that's why I switched.

I know NYU will cost an arma and a leg but it's closer to home. I rather not dorm but I do plan on applying to the SUNYs as well. Have you applied to dental schools yet? Do you know of any excellent DAT test prep books to recommend? 😀

I'm applying this cycle. Kaplan blue book is good. Go to the DAT msg board for more tips and study guides.
