I applied a little late this cycle and my application wasn’t verified until the end of September which resulted in being complete at most schools early to mid October. My sGPA and cGPA are both >3.9 and my MCAT is balanced in the 30-33 range. I applied to 16 schools and received 4 interviews so far, one in late October, two in November, and one in February. However, I was rejected at one school, wait listed at two and one still pending decision (likely another wait list at this point).
For one of the schools I was wait listed at, I was told my interview went really well and that my application “looked good”. My February interview was with the dean of admissions of the school and it went great; my interviewer even said “we would be glad to have you attend XYZ”, but to my surprise I was wait listed a few days ago. Lastly, the school I was rejected at said that the reason that I did not make it was “probably” due to a lack of non-clinical volunteering.
So with the way things are going I am going to plan for the worst and get ready to reapply for next cycle. Since I submitted my application I have been working almost full time at a non-medical related job in a leadership position. I have also been volunteering as a tech at a free clinic’s pharmacy, which was not listed on my AMCAS but was mentioned in some of my secondary essays. With all this in mind I have a few questions
-Would this be considered “too little” improvement with my application and should I look to pick up another activity before I reapply?
-If the core of my personal statement is still valid and I could not think of another way to answer the “why medicine?” prompt, can I just make minor edits and additions to my current statement or should I try to completely rewrite it? Secondary essays too?
- Do you think that submitting late is playing a big role in my outcome this cycle or is there likely something that I am missing/not being told?
Sorry for the long text but I would appreciate any advice that you may have.
