Hi Everyone!
I am looking for advice on how to reapply to medical school!
Here is my background.
I graduated from university in 2017 and received a committee letter of recommendation in 2018. I also took the MCAT in 2017. I worked in consulting from 2017-2019.
In 2019 I joined the NIH as a post-bac and got accepted to medical school!
In 2019 I deferred medical school to do a research year at the NIH. In 2020 I deferred medical school again and in 2021 I withdrew due to the covid-19 pandemic due to family health issues. In 2020 I also switched to a volunteer contract at the NIH until 2024. Recently family issues have resolved and I tried to petition for re-entry into medical school but was denied in 2025. I have a chance to re-petition in 6 months but I am currently preparing to reapply.
What do people recommend in terms of letter of recommendations and the additional gap year? I am afraid that my letter of recommendations and even coursework may expire. Would a post-bac be my best option?
Current plan is to retake the MCAT (gpa 3.9, mcat 514 so there's room for improvement) and then apply for consulting jobs while volunteering and shadowing on the side.
Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you in advance.
