need to do pre-req's and want to take mcats in april of 2007 (long ways away i know🙂 Any suggestions on taking pre-req science courses (2 a semester/quarter) and any upper division courses over a two year period and be prepared to take the mcats? I hear some people say certain courses should be taken before taking mcats. Thanks in advance!!

Here is how I scheduled them:

Semester 1:
Genchem I/lab
Bio I/lab
Semester 2:
Genchem II/lab
Bio II/lab
Semester 3:
Ochem I
Physics I/lab
Semester 4:
Ochem II
Physics II/lab
Summer Session:
Ochem lab

You could swap the bio and physics around, but you're pretty stuck as far as the chem sequence goes.
If you are planning on starting in fall of 2005, that means that you would not have fully completed Ochem II and Physics II by the time of the April 2007 MCAT administration. This may or may not put a crimp in your plans, but you should be aware. If summer classes are possible you could at least have physics II under your belt.

Good luck!

Thank you!!! I do plan on going to school in the summer so hopefully that helps out. Do you think there are any other classes that might help with the mcat, such as molecular bio or genetics?

Take Biochem or Genetics if you can. I would say, especially genetics. 🙂

I'd recommend biochem... the genetics I've seen thus far on the practice materials (I'm taking in April) was all covered in my bio classes, though YMMV. I have found the human biochem class I'm taking this semester to be immensely helpful in my MCAT prep.

Also keep in mind that by 2007 the MCAT will be computerized with approx. 20 testing dates according to the AAMC. I plan on taking Ochem/Bio year 2 also, while studying for the MCAT...hopefully there will be a May/June test date!
