Hi all, I posted a WAMC on here a few weeks ago, and it really helped me understand what goes in to making a school list. I did some more research on programs and location and mission, and I came up with an updated list. I was wondering if I could get your opinion on my list as it stands and if you have any suggestions. Thanks so much!

Demographics: Senior at top 20 school, white male from NJ
Major: Anthropology; Minor: History
cGPA: 3.92
BCPM: 3.90
MCAT: 519
LizzyM score: 76.2; WARS score: 87

Research: Worked in a lab for 2.5 years, ~800 hours overall. No publications or anything like that, but my gap year job is going to be clinical research which will give about 2000 more hours

Clinical volunteering: Volunteer EMT since high school (~2000 hours), Summer volunteering in an oncology ward (~120 hours), Volunteered at a free HIV/STI clinic (~75 hours)

Physician shadowing – include hours/specialties: Urology (~200 hours), Ophthalmology (~225 hours), Emergency medicine (~60 hours)

Non-clinical volunteering: President of a large university service organization in a disenfranchised community where I have volunteered as a tutor in local high school (~320 hours), Helped form and now lead a program that teaches CPR to students at underfunded public high schools for free for which I received a grant (~75 hours)

Other activities: VP for pre-professional fraternity, TA for my school's human anatomy course

I'm strongly considering going for an MD/MPH, so I'm mainly focusing on schools that offer that dual-degree.

Schools on my list:
  • Harvard
  • UPenn
  • WashU
  • Yale
  • Columbia
  • Duke
  • Chicago
  • Johns Hopkins
  • Michigan
  • NYU
  • Vanderbilt
  • Pitt
  • Cornell
  • Northwestern
  • Emory
  • Mt. Sinai
  • GW
  • UVA
  • VCU
  • University of Maryland
  • Rutgers (NJMS and RWJ)
  • Temple
  • University of Miami
  • Stony Brook
  • Jefferson
Please let me know if you have further comments or suggestions, I really appreciate them! Thanks again and stay safe out there!

Consider adding Jefferson and SUNY Downstate! Good schools and always good to have a few more safe schools. Otherwise looks great!
Thanks! I was looking into those as well. Do you still think Jefferson is worth it was >10k or so applicants?

Yes because plenty of schools (like Temple) get even more, but Jeff has a large class size of 270—so there is a very solid chance at an interview.
Thanks! I wasn't think in relation to the size of their class, good point

Thanks so much for your feedback @Goro ! I know you say "nothing wrong with aiming high", but am I aiming too high?

Allow me to chime in. No. You're a Rockstar. Congrats on an impressive app. If you don't have any interviews by mid September you could consider some more medium tier schools, but I don't think you'll have to worry. Write a good and meaningful PS and you'll be fine.
