ADVICE ON: Should I retake the KAPLAN course?

Hello fellow future optometrists:

I am in dire need of advice. So I inquired with kaplan about retaking the classroom course and they are letting me retake it for a much cheaper price then what I had paid before when I took it. My question is whether I should retake the course at all??

The first time i took kaplan, i did NOT utilize the materials that were given to me like I should have. I realize i was depending on classroom material and never even TOUCHED the online material (which is where all the good stuff is at). This time, if I take the course, i will do everything that is asked of me and will do everything when it is due. However, my test is in late July and I dont want to waste my time with something that won't help. So my question is should I retake the course or will i be better of studying on my own (I do have a lot of material to study from as well)??

I want to study the most efficient way and I am just not sure on what to do so let me know what you guys think!

I don't think you will need to retake the course if you can motivate yourself. I only studied from the Kaplan review notes and OAT Destroyer for one month, and I got 340 on my OAT. My advice is to plan out a doable study schedule (2~4 hrs/day) and follow it strictly (no excuses!). Allocate more time on your weak subjects and less on your strong ones, and I would start studying with the hard subject first. (just incase if you need more time on them) Redo the questions you guessed on or got wrong until you understand the concept behind it, and just skim through the ones you got right. Lastly, do the sample test on AOA's site AFTER you have completed your study. It is a very good simulation that you can use to evaluate how you will perform on the real OAT. Do a last minute review on the subject you are not satisfy with and make sure you are able to do ALL the questions listed on the sample. Good luck studying!

do u mind telling me what this AOA sample test is and where I can find it...it is the first time i am hearing of it!

Don't bother retaking the course! But the thick study book is AWESOME, especially for Biology..it was right on point. Definitely try to study from as many SAMPLE tests from AOA, especially the physics problems. If you have the kaplan notecards, those are the best..for all subjects. But you would have to be disciplined and dedicated.
