I have 72 hours to accept/decline this volunteer position at a hospital: PT/OT Rounder . Can anyone share their opinions about doing volunteer work like this? It sounds like a good position to look into as I'm currently undecided if I want to become a Physician or go the DPT route. (I'm shadowing DO's, MD's, PT's on top of this) I also have yet to gain real world insight into the field of inpatient OT. With this position it sounds like I'll be able to go all around the hospital and will be able to meet a lot of the staff through out the 4 hours every week.

Thoughts? Thus far in my shadowing endeavors I've heard some negative things about inpatient PT and that the outpatient private sector is a lot better.

I current volunteer at a very big inpatient/outpatient facility and they work me like a dog! I don't mind because it keeps me busy, but I dont get to see much therapy and I haven't really learned anything new. If you really want a good shadowing experience to get an idea of what you want to do, I wouldn't recommend what I am doing ( basically patient transport to excercise groups and filling supplies in between transports). But if you know that PT/OT is what you want, then the inpatient volunteernig is essential.

Yeah I'm volunteering tuesday at a small outpatient OT/PT facility. I figured that volunteer spot was going to be like that, I'm switching to Radiology volunteer work towards the evening. The rounder volunteer shift just wasn't going to work with work and this busy schedule I have this semester.
