Hello, i am taking a botany class and i have to grow a plant. But i don't know much about plants. So if anyone knows anything about plants or has taken a botany course, please help! Thank you.

Which would be an interesting plant to grow? (fast growing plants only)

Where can i buy seeds? Where can i buy plants? (home depot/lowe's don't have much of a variety and do they have seeds?)

Is it better to start with a plant or a seed? (i have to keep a log of the changes that occur so i am guessing seeds will give me more to write about...do seeds take too long to germinate?)

Arabidopsis thaliana!!!! I did my research with them....but I don't have any info on where they are found, etc. outside of the lab. But they are a fast-growing weed with flowers and lots of seeds!

hmm, I grow a Jade plant in my room... I dont know about fast, but it's easy. Break a branch off an existing jade plant, place it on some soil (not even in soil, just on it), water once every month/month and a half, and you've got yourself a plant.

Mint grows really fast tends to take over pots quickly, which is sort of interesting!

Herb seeds (basil, rosemary, sage, thyme) are very easy to find - any garden or even supermarkets sometimes have them! Home Depot, etc. will definitely have herb seeds.

They germinate very quickly, are easy to grow, and don't require a lot of space.

Might I recommend a delicious variety of basil. They grow incredibly fast...drop a few seeds about a 1/2 inch down in a small pot of dirt, keep the soil moist and in a sunny location, and you should have seedlings in 5-7 days. After they get about 2-3" tall, thin them so they are about 2-3" apart.

Once they get large enough that they have a lot of leaves, you can harvest the leaves and make pesto, sandwiches, etc. The great thing about basil is that the more you pluck their leaves, the more leaves they grow and you can have delicious pasta all winter long.

I love basil. I grow Thai sweet basil, spicy globe basil, sweet italian basil...they all have very disctinct flavors.

If your plant gets large enough that it starts to flower, pull the flowers off...it will detract energy from leaf-making.

I have an herb garden (I cook more than the average student). Parsley and Basil have been doing very well and they've suffered some abuse, let me tell ya.
