I am a current student looking to pursue a career in either PT or Pharmacy. Here is my dilemma. I have an associates degree and have the rest of 2013 and 2014 to complete a bachelors. I work as a pharmacy tech right now and can`t see myself being happy dealing with what pharmacist do everyday. I volunteered in a sports medicine clinic in high school and loved it! So I looked into the two and have shadowed at 2 different clinics (a pta and a pt at different times). But anytime I ask a pharmacist which they would recomend, I am told anything but pharmacy because of the stress and new things they have to do (ie. Shots, pet meds, etc). But my mom believes pharmacy is the way I should go because of the dying baby boomer. I have been mainly considering pt since I think I would be happier doing that, so then have to wonder if I should try for pta first to build up an income to attend pt school if I decided to continue. I would love any kind of input or advice please. Thank you!

Sounds like you've already made up your mind.

I think on average pharmacists make more money, but that's no reason to choose a career.

If you like PT, then go for PT. If you know pharmacy will be miserable for you, then why pursue it? Yes, pharmacists make more than PTs on average, but like you, I could never see myself trade PT for Pharm.

I'm in PT school and my brother is in pharmacy school. We both enjoy our programs but he admits that pharmacy or pharmacy education is not his end goal and that it's the same for many students at his school - they see pharmacy as quick cash or had parents pushing them into pharmacy.

It's not wise to pay $100k+ tuition for unhappiness. As the only PT student in a pharmacy dominated family, I can also tell you, we're different breeds of people lol.

My mom is pushing my bro to be a pt. He hates chem, so he doesn't like pharmacy.

Your post reads that you dislike pharmacy, enjoyed pt experience, cannot see yourself being a pharmacist long-term, and the only reason you would consider it is because of your mom. Sounds to me like you would be miserable pursuing pharmacy. Why even bother?
